Gilberto Cardenas Collection on The Chicano Movement, Arts and Culture
Gilberto Cardenas (b. 1952 - ) is a sociologist, noted scholar and art collector. An activist during the Chicano civil rights movement in California during the late 1960s and in the Midwest during the early 1970s, his book collection is one of the most comprehensive collections of Chicano movement literature and publications that inspired, informed and sustained the movement. A collector of Latino art since the 1970s his collection also includes a significant number of rare art exhibition catalogs, books, and related publications.
Augusto Rodriguez Collection
Augusto Rodriguez, (b. 1904 San Juan, Puerto Rico) was a conductor and composer during the Big Band Era. The collection includes 89 books by Puerto Rican and Latin American authors and playwrights such as Francisco Arrivi and Rene Marques. Many of the books are inscribed by the authors with personal notes to Rodriguez. Given by Mr. Rodriguez’ granddaughter, artist Gloria Rodriguez Calero.

The library collects the publications of academic institutions, foundations, advocacy organizations and research centers conducting research on Latinos in the United States.
Oral History Interviews
The Julian Samora Library’s Oral History Project has gathered more than 100 Oral history interviews with Latino leaders, writers, poets, artists, scholars, and Notre Dame alumni. The interviews may be searched and viewed here: http://latinostudies.nd.edu/history/
