Crossroads Gallery @ Downtown South Bend

The Institute for Latino Studies presents:

Graffiti Art Project
Monday, August 24 - Wednesday, September 30, 2009
Opening Reception: Monday, August 24th
Crossroads Gallery, Downtown South Bend
Open Monday-Friday, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

The Graffiti Art Project (GAP), a summer-long endeavor targeting young students in the South Bend community with an interest in art, is pleased to invite the public to the opening reception of an exhibition of their work. The reception will be held on Monday, August 24th, from 5:30-7:30 pm, at the Crossroads Gallery, located at 217 S Michigan, South Bend.

GAP's mission is to provide participants between the ages of 10-17 with a creative outlet during the summer, and an opportunity to express themselves through their talent. Initiated through the combined efforts of the South Bend Police, the Hispanic Leadership Coalition (HLC), and the University of Notre Dame’s Institute for Latino Studies and Robinson Learning Center, GAP counted with the participation of 61 aspiring artists. Teams of volunteers, art peer mentors, local businesses, and recognized local artists such as Ramiro Rodriguez, were instrumental in the success of the program.

The GAP art will be on display from August 24th to September 30th, 2009, at the Crossroads Gallery. The exhibition will also be featured September 26th, 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., during Art Beat week. For more information, or for hours, please call the Crossroads Gallery at 631-3249.
