Film Screening with Colectivo Altepee

-

Location: Eck Visitors Center Auditorium

Join filmmaker Simón Sedillo and musical group Colectivo Altepee for a film screening and discussion of their documentary film Ayer, Hoy, y Mañana: Música Tradicional de Cuerdas (Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow: Traditional String Music). The film highlights the work of Colectivo Altepee and discusses how they have used music as a tool for community organizing amid the current political situation in Mexico, specifically the effects of neoliberalism on rural communities of Veracruz, the war on drugs, and fraught electoral politics.

A small reception will follow the screening.

The event is co-sponsored by the College of Arts and Letters, the Institute for Latino Studies, the Department of Anthropology, the Department of Music, the Program in Sacred Music, the Mexico Working Group, and the Anthropology Club.
