Research at the Institute
The mission of the Research Department is to generate multidisciplinary, policy-oriented research rooted in academic scholarship. We provide scholars, decision-makers, and stakeholders with information and analysis to understand the role of Latinos in the ongoing transformation of US Society. Our strategic priorities are the areas of Education, Economy, Health, and Civic Participation. In pursuit of this mission the research department:
- participates in the review of all Institute research publications and frequently collaborates with Notre Dame faculty and external authors in projects and publications such as a series of policy and research briefs, monographs, and other reports. Research team members teach courses on various social science topics and statistical methods.
- collaborates closely with the Institute's Center for Metropolitan Chicago Initiatives (CMCI) on a variety of research and community outreach projects focusing on the status of Latino families and neighborhoods and ways to improve their health, education, and well-being.
- supports the Institute's role as the headquarters of the Inter-University Program for Latino Research (IUPLR). IUPLR works to expand the pool of Latino scholars, and leaders, strengthen the capacity of Latino research centers, increase the availability of policy-relevant Latino-focused research, and advance the intellectual presence of Latino scholarship.
