The Hispanic Alumni of Notre Dame (HA of ND), which ND established its advisory board in 1994, will host a panel of alumni discussing their personal and career choices since their college years at ND.  Many are pioneers and leaders in their career paths and aim to share their experiences with the ND community on October 15, bringing Hispanic Heritage Month on campus to a close.

Miguel Antonio Levario

 

Miguel Antonio Levario, Ph.D.

Miguel is an associate professor in the Department of History at Texas Tech University where he specializes in US-Mexico Borderlands, with emphasis on the twentieth century. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1999 with a degree in English and Spanish before moving on to earn a Master of Arts degree in Spanish from Stanford University and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.

His book, Militarizing the Border: When Mexicans Became the Enemy (College Station: Texas A&M University Press, 2012) explains current tensions and controversy over immigration and law enforcement issues centered on the US-Mexico border.

Javier Galan, M.D.

Javier graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree. He completed medical school at the Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina and his residency at the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. He also pursued a master’s degree in Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to learn how research and programs can improve community health.

Javier specializes in pediatrics at The South Bend Clinic. He is excited to serve the children and families of the greater South Bend community!

Prisma Y. Garcia

Prisma Y. Garcia is a community member in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood in Southeast Dallas, where she was born and raised. She works as the Director of Capacity Building at Social Venture Partners Dallas, a philanthropic organization that provides pro-bono consulting for social impact organizations. She has a Master of Science degree in Entrepreneurship and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Notre Dame. She has expertise in social impact strategy and community engagement.

 

 

Mari Fuentes-Martin

 

Dr. Mari Fuentes-Martin

Mari is a double Domer with her undergraduate degree in History and Business (’89) and Masters in Public Administration (’94).

As an undergrad at Notre Dame, Mari worked in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as a Minority Student Recruiter for 3 years and re-activated the Hispanic American Organization (HAO).  She was also co-founder of the Ballet Folklorico Azul y Oro which performed throughout the years at various cultural events and coordinated monthly Spanish mass.

Professionally, Mari’s career kicked off at Notre Dame working in the Alumni Association and the Office of Multicultural Affairs.  Since leaving Notre Dame in 1994, she has worked at various Hispanic Serving Institution in South Texas supporting Latinx student access and success in higher education.  She currently serves at the Vice President for Student Success & Engagement at Texas A&M San Antonio.

Lonnie Limon

Lonnie is the Managing Director at Dieste overseeing the Brand Leadership department as well as various new business efforts.  In his 23 years in advertising, Lonnie has worked at some of the leading agencies in the U.S. such as Leo Burnett, The Bravo Group, LatinWorks, and Dieste. Having focused most of his career on the Account Service side of the business, Lonnie also has a wide array of experience in Media, Public Relations, Field Marketing and Sports/Entertainment marketing.  Lonnie’s extensive client history includes Pepsi, Anheuser-Busch, Procter & Gamble, McDonald’s, AT&T, State Farm, Domino’s, Dunkin’, Avocados From Mexico, Dannon and Goya Foods.  Lonnie currently resides in Austin, Texas, where his family has lived for over 130 years.
