Ruben Reyes, Jr. will read from his work and sit for a public interview with English PhD student Paulina Hernández-Trejo as part of the Letras Latinas Community Reading Series at the main branch of the St. Joe County Public Library in South Bend, Indiana. Hernández-Trejo will also conduct an on-campus interview for the Letras Latinas Oral History Project. Later in the week, Reyes will be writer-in-residence at the Raclin Murphy Museum of Art as part of a multi-year partnership between Letras Latinas and the Museum to spur the creation of new literary art in response to the Museum’s permanent collection.
Ruben Reyes, Jr. is a graduate of Harvard, where he studied History and Literature and Latinx Studies. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, BOMB Magazine, LitHub and other publications. In 2026, he was named a Forbes 30 under 30.
His debut story collection, There is a Rio Grande in Heaven, was longlisted for the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction, the Carnegie Medal for Excellence, the Aspen Words Literary Prize, and the New American Voices Award and other distinctions.
