The Institute for Latino Studies welcomes its Advisory Council to campus once a year during football season. The council helps position ILS as a premier teaching and curricular institute at Notre Dame, and as a model and leader among institutes of its kind across the nation.
Made up of 15 members, the council recently welcomed Francisco Lozano ‘94, who brings new energy into the University of Notre Dame’s community of advisors serving its institutes and colleges. Based in Los Angeles, Lozano is a dynamic leader and revenue executive for AI technology at Gainsight.

“The Institute for Latino Studies represents both a legacy and a promise. For me, it is a way to the work of our father, Ignacio “Nacho” Lozano, whose commitment to Notre Dame helped lay the foundation for this important work. It is also a place where Latino voices, culture, and scholarship are celebrated and elevated, shaping future generations of leaders. I am humbled to continue supporting an institute that builds bridges, strengthens community, and reflects the very best of Notre Dame’s mission,” said Lozano.
Francisco’s father Nacho Lozano ‘47 (d.2023), and mother, Marta, established an endowment for excellence that helped launch the Latino Studies Scholars Program. They also created a second endowment supporting enrichment activities such as research and internships for 20 undergraduate merit scholars each summer.
Last September, Francisco and his siblings met four of the outstanding merit scholars supported by this fund and commemorated their father’s life in a special Mass at the Basilica (pictured below).
“ILS is thrilled to welcome Francisco to our advisory council. He has already proven himself to be a friend of the institute and I know I speak for all of us when I say how pleased I am to formalize his role with us,” said ILS Director and Professor of American Studies Jason Ruiz.
The ILS Advisory Council will meet this semester during the Notre Dame vs Texas A&M football weekend. Their fall meeting will conclude with a reception and dinner in the Joyce Center featuring Xavier A. Gutierrez, CEO of ImpactX Sports, as keynote speaker. Faculty, students, and alumni of the Institute for Latino Studies will join in celebrating.
