Emma Oslé

Postdoctoral Fellow of the Institute for Latino Studies

Emma Oslé holds a PhD in Art History from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. Her current book project, “The Space In-Between: Latinx Art and the Maternal,” provides an entryway to conceptualizing Latinx art through the central role of family. It is an interdisciplinary intersectional project centering narrative storytelling practices to reveal how maternity provides the backdrop for artists considering the intergenerational, cross-border effects of maternal care. This research has received support from the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Terra Foundation, and the Institute for Studies on Latin American Art (ISLAA), among others. She was a Postdoctoral Research Associate and Lecturer in the Department of Art at the University of Virginia in 2025-2026, and was the 2024-2025 Terra Foundation for American Art Fellow and Big Ten Academic Alliance Fellow at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Additionally, she is also active in various curatorial roles, and has accumulated curatorial experience in several museums including the Museum of Modern Art (New York, NY), Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art (Bentonville, AR), and multiple smaller institutions and private collections. Her writing has appeared in catalog publications, Grove Art Online, the Woman’s Art Journal, Rutgers Art Review, and in the NYU Latinx Project’s Intervenxions.
