This summer, Rosa Vega Rodriguez, a sophomore majoring in Neuroscience and Latino Studies, worked with Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center, a non-profit organization based in El Paso, Texas that supports migrants by providing legal services. During her time there, she worked closely with detained migrants to prepare them for their Credible Fear Interview, a necessary step in seeking asylum. Reflecting on her experience, Rosa commented, “The best part of my experience was seeing the strength and hope that migrants carried with them. Despite their long journeys, treatment as criminals by the immigration system, and lack of resources, the migrants I met were striving people.”
